A 5-day Pre-Nursery lesson plan focusing on pet care, dogs, cats, birds, and fish. Includes letter I recognition, rote counting 1-10, and banana ladoo making.

What children learn

  • Define pet animals and explain that they depend on people for food, shelter, companionship, and care.
  • Identify features and needs of common pets, including dogs, cats, birds, and fish.
  • Describe hygienic and responsible pet care and recognise the role of a veterinarian.
  • Recognise and construct the letter I and rote count from 1 to 10.

Key activities

  • Colour a chosen pet-animal cut-out and explain the choice.
  • Make paw-and-claw prints with dog and cat figurines.
  • Create a bird or fish paper-plate craft and a mouse finger puppet after a story.
  • Wash animal figurines in a pet-care role-play and interview visiting pet owners.
  • Make a dog-bottle rattler and prepare banana ladoos in small groups.

You’ll need

Pet-animal cut-outs and figurines, crayons and paint, paper plates and craft pieces, letter I flashcards and manipulatives, pet-care bowls and washing supplies, musical instruments, plastic bottles and rice, banana-ladoo ingredients and utensils.

Structure: 5 days; each day includes a Thought of the Day, Tuning-in Time, gross-motor development, cognition/literacy, literacy or fine-motor work, and numeracy.
