Local community and society (Nærmiljø og samfunn) — printable resources

Belonging, participation, and discovering how the local community works.

The learning area Nærmiljø og samfunn focuses on helping children discover their local neighbourhood, appreciate community roles, and explore diverse societal structures. Our Social Studies and Science resources include family tree activities, neighbourhood mapping sheets, and people-at-work matching tasks. These printables encourage children to identify key community helpers, understand their surroundings, and celebrate the diverse traditions and festivals that shape their local society.

Integrate these tasksheets alongside real-world excursions in your barnehage, such as visits to the local library, park, or fire station. Use the family and helper templates to prepare children before a neighbourhood walk, or to document their experiences afterward. This practice encourages active citizenship, promotes democratic participation, and helps children understand their unique place within Norwegian society.
